Burrangong Picnic Race Club president, Tom Wills, was quick to dismiss rumors this week that the annual picnic races will be cancelled.
“We keep getting phone calls from people saying, “we heard the races are off”, but we’re still strong as far as I'm aware,” he said on Monday.
The only uncertainty of the day is whether the track is suitable for horses, given the abundance of rain over the last month. But all will be revealed soon enough as a steward from Wagga inspected the track on Monday afternoon to determine the outcome.
“They were pretty happy with the first inspection about three weeks ago, the track’s in really good nick, it’s just the rain continues to fall,” Wills said.
Although regardless of the outcome the day will go ahead, with predictions of a balmy 24 degree day on the cards.
“If it isn’t safe for the horses to race we’ll still be holding the golf ball drop, the bar will be open, food available, and if we can’t race the horses we’ll try think of other activities for the day,” Wills said.
Don’t let anything deter you – the day’s still on and it’ll hopefully be even bigger than last year.

Interstate races will also be screened from the bookies area, and face painting and the Mr Whippy van will also be available. Buses will also be in operation during the day.
“Don’t let anything deter you – the day’s still on and it’ll hopefully be bigger than last year,” Wills said.
“It’ll be a good time for everyone to get out in the sun, see everyone and get out of this dreary weather.”

The Burrangong Picnic Races are set to be held at Toompang Racecourse on Saturday, October 8. Memberships can be purchased from the Little Cherry Tree.
The club would like to thank the generous businesses who have supported and donated prizes towards this year’s Fashions on the Field competition to be judged by Deidre and Julian Bethwaite of Sydney.
There will be one runner-up prize per category, except for the Best Dressed Child category, as all the children picked for the stage will receive a McDonalds voucher.
