
Sporting celebrations are high on the agenda this month with the annual Burrangong Picnic Race meeting this Saturday and Young Bowling Club’s Fishing Club celebrating a 30th anniversary on Saturday 15 with special guests Len Pascoe and Luke Dickens. Hall Brothers and Keith Cullen Ovals are venues for the town’s Over 35’s Rugby League Masters Carnival to be held on October 15 and 16, when teams from many parts of NSW will congregate for football and fun.
There will be plenty to discuss at the next meeting of the National Cherry Festival Committee on October 12 at 6pm. The festival will be held on December 2,3 and 4 and the program will be published soon.
Entries for the 19th Annual Cherry Festival Photographic Competition and exhibition close on October 21. The exhibition attracts quality entries from a wide radius and more details can be obtained from Susie McDonell on 6382 4120.
On the Saturday of the festival all motoring enthusiasts are invited to place their motor vehicle, bike, car, hot rod or special interest machine on display at the Young Town Hall Car Park in Lovell Street from 9am to 2.30pm. Young Rotary Club is planning a Black and White Dinner Dance this month to raise funds for Rotary youth programs. The event will be held at Young Services Club with dancing to the strains of local group the PHAT BOYZ.
National Cherry Queen entrant Hayley Dwyer will be looking for support when she presents the first local showing of “Bridget Jones’s Baby” on Thursday October 13. The movie starts at 6.30pm and tickets are $20. A former Young teacher, Hayley now works at Boorowa and is raising money for the National Cherry Festival and the Boorowa Education Foundation.
