The internet can be a dangerous place for kids but local high schools are taking a stand, hosting online safety workshops to educate parents about how to protect their children.
Cyberbullying and “sexting”, sending explicit personal photos to other people who may misuse them, are the main pitfalls for young people online, issues that are becoming more and more prevalent as access to the internet becomes easier.
To combat online dangers, Mission Australia Riverina along with the Cootamundra Local Area Command (LAC) have arranged an online safety expert from the Office of the Children’s eSafety Commissioner visit Young high schools to address parents on how to keep young people safe online.
Senior Constable Joe Camilleri of the Cootamundra LAC has helped arrange the workshops and has seen first and cyber bullying.
The Young talk is on Wednesday, November 9 from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at Young High School, police encourage all parents to attend. Free child minding will be available.
