Last weekend saw the annual Cherry Festival Invitational Netball Carnival held by the Young & District Netball Association.
The 35th anniversary was well supported with 30 teams from across NSW & ACT taking part in two days of tough competition.
YDNA patron, Mrs Daphny Krebs, opened the event on Saturday morning with games starting at 8.30am and the final game at 1.30pm on Sunday.
Each game lasted for 30 minutes with two 15 minute halves, making it a big weekend for netball players and fans alike.
Saturday evening all competitors past and present were invited to the Young Services Club to celebrate the carnival’s 35th anniversary with a raffle and to socialise in a relaxed atmosphere after a hard day of running around the courts.
Young & District Netball Association organiser, Rachel Douglas, said there were a few players with sore heads on Sunday, but she believed competitors and organisers were all very happy with the turn out and the weekend as a whole, with an estimated 700 people in attendance.
Association treasurer, Maureen Nation said the weekend went well.
“Apart from the initial teething problems with the mixed grade teams, which everyone goes through,” she said.
“There were some very close games.”
