Local police made their presence felt in Young on Thursday morning as they conducted a High Visibility Patrol within the CBD.
Seven police, a drug detection dog and two handlers joined the operation which took place between 10am and 1.30pm.
Acting Inspector Kristin Marshall said police conducted a number of business inspections of local premises and of high risk locations that have been subject to retail theft recently.
“What we were trying to do was target anyone who’d be using or distributing illicit drugs and also target street crime and antisocial behaviour,” she said.
Acting Inspector Marshall said the patrol doubled as a deterrent and to reassure the community that police presence is high.
“I’m very happy and it’s good to let the community know we’re there, we’re looking out for them,” she said.
“It’s good that the community sees us out and about, it makes them feel safe.”
And when can Young expect another CBD patrol?
“It could happen any time!” she said.
