Six fire trucks responded to a fire at the Redhill Road Inert Landfill site at about 3.15pm on Wednesday.
Two Fire and Rescue appliances and four RFS tankers worked together to contain the blaze that emitted a large amount of smoke over the township over the afternoon.
Fire and Rescue captain, Ryan Terry, said his crew could see a large amount of grey and black smoke billowing from the location as they prepared to respond to the fire.
“Upon arrival we had a working fire in the main part of the Redhill tip,” he said. “We got to work with hoses and stopped the spread of the fire – it was under control in about 45 minutes and at about 5pm an excavator was on scene to pull apart the rubbish to further extinguish the fire.
“It was handed back over to Hilltops Shire Council at about 9pm.
“I’d like to thank everyone that turned up – the RFS members. Everyone worked extremely well together. It was a difficult situation with the lack of water up there.”
