The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSWRFS) is warning residents in the Young, Cootamundra, Harden and Boorowa areas to be highly vigilant as fire danger in the South West Slopes Zone will escalate today.
Superintendent Andrew Dillon asked that people avoid activities which could start fires.
He said large, dangerous fires can start from a simple act like grinding or welding.
People are encouraged not to undertake this type of work, in the open, during this period.
“People need to be really careful using any type of machinery that could cause an ignition,” he said.
“With the increased level of grass fuel fires will move very quickly and will burn quite intensely under strong winds, so people need to stay informed and have a plan in case they find themselves in a situation where a fire is in their area.”
