The prestigious Inglis Selling Complex at Oaklands Junction in Melbourne has once again proven to a happy hunting ground for some local standardbred breeders.
Dallas Harvey, together with David, Rachael and his son Blake made the long and slow trip down the highway to Melbourne last Sunday with three very well bred yearlings in tow.
The three yearlings were presented for sale at the 2017 Ladbrokes APG Standardbred Sales as lots number 61, 113 and 168 respectively.
Lot 61 was the first to be presented for the Micallef family. The yearling was a well grow colt by Art Major from the Holmes Hanover mare Angela Paton NZ who herself was the dam of eight foals for seven winners.
Bidding on the colt started a little below Micallef’s expected entry point however the cash soon started to flow with Steve Carter finally securing the colt for $28,000.
Next up was lot number 113 a colt by the current inform sire Somebeachsomewhere USA (1:46.4) and the producing Western Terror mare Gee R We There Yet.
The dam herself is the mother of the thirty-five-time winner Another Party.
Once again there was a moderate start in bidding from the stands but it very quickly moved on to reach a remarkable $97,500 for his excited owner Dallas Harvey. The buyer of the colt ended up being well-known participant John McCarthy.
Finally, The Micallef clan gathered for the final entry of their Melbourne draft, a filly by A Rocknroll Dance USA from the Bettors Delight mare Maheer Melody NZ.
The well grown November filly fetched $12,500 and went to the famous Alabar Stud.
Interest will now centre on the Sydney Newmarket Sales that will be held on Sunday, February 26 at which a number of local studs will be represented together with some individual boutique breeders.
The local boutique breeders and studs heading to Newmarket includes:

- Josh and Chloe Powderly will be presenting one horse for sale.
- John Gibson Family Trust are also offering up one horse.
- David and Rachael Micallef have one of their horses presenting.
