Cherryettes League Tag team coach Jess Mcinerney said her team went into the weekend, knowing that they had to improve on some key elements from the weekend before.
“From the kick off, the girls were focused with Lucy Jones breaking our opponents line on the second ball going over the try line,” she said.
“It didn't stop there, the first half was fantastic the girls placing a 20-0 score against Junee. In the second half the girls started off a little sloppy unable to complete our sets, but the last 10 minutes were able to pull it back together and bring home a few more tries.”
Final score 32-6, try scorers Chloe Turner, Bridget Maloney, Kristy Brown (Murphy), Tayla Collier, Allysa Smith (2) - conversations Laura Eastlake (2).
Elevations players player - Lucy Jones.
After a great win against Gundagai the previous week the Cherrypickers under 18s went down to South City 38 points to 16.
Leading South City 10 to 6 for most of the first half the 18s let there lead slip when they allowed South City to score two quick tries and went to the break 18 to 10 down.
South’s didn't let Young back into game scoring straight after halftime. Young could only manage one try in the second half.
Try scorers for young Will Manwaring two and Jake Davis one.
The Young under 16s went into its game against Cootamundra missing four of last years grand final side but played hard football to seal a 24 to 4 victory.
Manager Brad Pettit said the game did not start well for the Pickers.
“In the first five minutes Cootamundra caught Young unawares and scored giving them a four to nil lead,” he said. “But Young regrouped and in the 19th minute Ned Evans crashed over the try line to even the score then Tom Jenkins converted which gave us the lead which the boys didn't give up for the rest of the game.
“Cooper Powderly scoring in the corner just before the break gave Young a half time lead of 10-4 and after half time the Pickers stood up and went on with the job with tries to Steven Anderson, Benny Baker and another to Ned Evans with Thomas Mcillhatton converting one of those tries which secured Young the victory.
“Special thanks to the 15's who stepped up and slotted in and played exceptional football. Players player went to Tom Jenkins who is a force to be reckoned with, we couldn't be prouder of the way the entire team stood up, it was a fantastic effort.”
