PC Erin Hands polished her boots, ironed her uniform and turned up for work ready to apply everything she learnt at the NSW Police Force Academy into real life policing situations.
PC Hands said becoming a police officer was something that she dreamed of doing since she was young.
"I have always wanted to be able to make a difference in the community and be a role model," she said.
"I want to make a difference to the region and provide a safer environment for people to live in the community that I am serving in.
"I didn't really mind where I got stationed, I just wasn't too keen on going to the city, I am glad I have been posted in the country and in Young."
Acting Inspector Kristin Marshall said she was pleased to welcome PC Hands to the Young Police station.
"I'm very happy that we are providing training to Probationary Constables in Young, it is a little different to City postings, both have their pros and cons," she said.
"I'm confident PC Hands will be able to provide an excellent service to her community and become a confident and capable member of the NSW Police Service.
"PC Hands will work in General Duties with two other experienced Police Officers, with at least one a Field Training Assessment Officer, once Erin has some experience and exposure to the jobs Police attend on a daily basis, she will become part of the daily car crews.
Superintendent Chris Schilt said he gave PC Hands some advice on her first day on the beat.
"I told her to start out the way that you want to finish. Always remember the reasons that drew you towards this job," he said.
"PC Hands has a desire to help the community and do the best that she can in an ethical manner.
"If she keeps that at the back of her mind in all of her dealings, she will be right."
Cootamundra MP Katrina Hodgkinson thanked PC Hands for her commitment to combating crime and protecting the community.
