With members of the team residing all over the Hilltops from Young, Boorowa, Murringo and Harden the side truly represented the region in the competition.
After a successful qualifier in Orange the two teams travelled to the Sydney Aquatic and Gymnastics Centre in Sydney to compete against the best in NSW within the division.
There were a total of 44 teams competing from all over the state with the event one of the biggest on the gymnastics calendar.
Team Gym consists of six to12 gymnasts who compete on mini-tramp both single and synchronised, do a tumbling routine and a floor routine which comprises dance, acrobatic and gymnastics.
“It takes a lot of commitment as it is a team event so all members have to dedicate time to attend training sessions,” Robertson’s Gymnastics Michelle Robertson said.
“We entered a team in the Novice Section aptly name the Banana Splits.”
The team consisted of 11 girls aged 6 -11 years.
“The girls competed very well, for some it was their first ever experience at such a huge venue and were able to secure a gold on tumbling – over 9 – and received a silver medal overall,” Robertson said.
In the Intermediate section the M and M’s consisting of 12 girls aged 10-16 also performed well with some gymnasts competing new skills for the first time to also receive a silver overall with consistent performances over all apparatus.
These results were a compilation of over 6 months of training and a massive effort by all involved.
“Robertson’s Gymnastics would like to thank Jo Shea who volunteered on the floor on the day by manning a camera – without volunteers these competitions can’t run successfully.”
Robertson said the staff and club are looking forward to a bigger year next year with plans on attending events in Canberra, the Country Championships and the State Championships.
