The women who took part in the event presented their local charities with cheques which were all greatly appreciated.
At the start of the quest in August, entrants Julianne Duffey, Jade Nolan and Emma Blake all expressed a passion to support their chosen charities and they all went above and beyond.
Julianne raised funds for the Lions Club, Jade chose the Variety Children’s Charity and Emma supported Motor Neurone Disease (MND) research.
The cheque handover took place at the National Cherry Festival Committee debrief meeting last Wednesday night.
The meeting was attended by members of the committee and the wider community who celebrated the local women on their achievements.
During the handover, festival committee president Caitlin Sheehan congratulated each girl for her contribution to the festival, her charity and the wider community.
Fund raising events organised by the entrants included a wine tour, movie nights, open gardens, barefoot bowls night, disco, team sorting equestrian event and cook book sales.
A total of $22,919.80 was raised, with a percentage donated to the National Cherry Festival for next year’s event.
Organisers of the National Cherry Festival believe the competition is an important part of the overall festival and is open to both men and women, married or single, who are 18 years of age or over.
Anyone who is considering entering the competition and raising money for a local charity or organisation next year are asked to please contact the Young Visitor Information Centre on 6382 3394 for more details on entrance into the annual event.
Involvement in the event can help lift the public profile of an organisation, establish a fundraising platform and can lead to new experiences and opportunities for all candidates who take part.
