The 1400m main event will now be known as the Samara Johnson Memorial Macquarie Picnic Cup to honor the much admired jockey who lost her life in a motor vehicle accident recently.
Johnson was the star performer of the Macquarie Picnics last year riding home four winners including the Cup winner Dalhero for Cowra trainer Neil Smart.
Oxford Art and As Easy As both ridden by Samara Johnson became the career first winners, while the other winner for the talented rider was Pimpala Norseman trained at Gilgandra by Colleen Thurston.
The renaming of the event is a fitting tribute to the local picnic jockey who was also well known through equestrian circles around Young as well as the winning jockey in the 2017 Burrangong Cup.
Johnson was a former member of the Young Dressage Association as well as the Young Jump Club.
There will be a service held at Toompang Race Course on Tuesday from 11am where attendees are asked to wear jeans, boots and something purple.
The 2017 Macquarie Picnic races in Trangie will be run on December 29.
