Detective Inspector Scott Wilkinson said at about 4:10 pm on Wednesday, January 10 police attended an address in Prospect Street Young after receiving information from the community.
Police searched the property and located a hydroponic cannabis growing system.
“A search of the premises recovered 28 Cannabis plants, a quantity of cannabis leaf and seeds, as well as lighting equipment,” Detective Inspector Scott Wilkinson said.
“A 39-year-old man from Young will be issued future court attendance notices for cultivating and possessing prohibited plants, as well as possessing a prohibited drug.”
Mr Wilkinson said police seized the plants and equipment.
"The marijuana we confiscated has an estimated street value of $56,000," he said.
"So through the good work of our police and the diligence of the public these drugs have been stopped from ending up on the streets of Young.
“We want the public to know that all information that is provided to police is followed up."
Mr Wilkinson said all avenues of investigation were exhausted before police took action.
“One of the best ways to identify and investigate drug-related crimes is through the support of the public, and this is another example of how well the police and the community can work together.
“In fact, the community and police work together on a daily basis in a positive way and we encourage people to contact police or Crime Stoppers, which can be done anonymously if they see anything suspicious in their neighbourhoods.
