Work began on Monday and will involve realigning the curve of the road and improving the intersection with Apps Lane to give motorists better visibility as they travel onto the highway.
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke MP said the works are a result of local and state government collaborating in a solutions-based mindset.
"The NSW Government is providing $1.46 million for the project,
“The road will also be resurfaced and a safety barrier and signs installed," she said.
"This area was identified as a blackspot through the Government's Accident Investigation and Prevention Program after five run-off-road crashes occurred in the five years to 2013.
"The project aims to provide a smoother, safer road and reduce future maintenance requirements."
Hilltops Council mayor Brian Ingram said it was pleasing to see work restarting after a period of inaction.
"It is good to see work starting on this significant project after it had been at a standstill for a while due to a number of reasons," he said.
"Now due to collaboration between Local and State levels of government funding has been made available and this notorious black spot can be fixed."
Ms Cooke said there would be changed traffic conditions including lane closures and a reduced speed limit during work hours for the safety of workers, motorists and other road users.
"Motorists should plan their trip, allow extra travel time and follow the directions of traffic control and all signs," she said.
"This is important work which is expected to be completed by the end of May.
"Work will be carried out on weekdays between 7.30am and 6pm and from 8.30am to 1pm on Saturdays, weather permitting."
