Residents in the Hume Police District are urged by local police to monitor weather reports and health advice as the state is expected to experience heatwave conditions over Saturday and Sunday.
The Bureau of Meteorology warns temperatures are expected to increase from Friday with Young’s temperature predicted to hit a top of 41 degrees on Saturday.
Police also wish to remind motorists it’s not only an offence for children or pets to be left unattended in a vehicle, it can be deadly. According to Police everyone needs to take care in hot weather, but some people are at higher risk of heat illness, especially if they are older, live alone or are socially-isolated. Livestock and pet owners are also being urged to ensure adequate clean water is always available and that cool shading is provided.
