The event will be held at the Wagenbah Oval with the day kicking off with an all-in match where anyone can take part in a fun match before the Wombat and Nubba teams take to the field for the main event from 12.30pm.
“We’ve got so much support from the community and so we thought, let’s make it big,” Wombat Hotel Social Group organiser Erica Pye said.
“We’ll do the raffle, we’ll do the auction, we’ll do the 100s club, all the stuff we’ve got happening and turn it into a community day to get everyone involved,” Erica said.
The event is open to the whole area with plenty for the kids and the whole family to take part in with live music, face painting, a jumping castle, sausage sizzle plus lots more.
The big prize on the day will be a cricket ball and bat signed by Australian cricket legend Glenn McGrath who founded the McGrath foundation after his wife died of breast cancer.
“Harden Bearings and Hardware approached me and said ‘hey, we’ve seen your event on Facebook, we’ve got a cricket bat and ball signed by Glenn McGrath if you’d like to use it?’” Erica said.
The auction will kick off at the Wombat Hotel from 5pm with passes to visit Gai Waterhouse at her Sydney stables for four, a signed Sydney Swans singlet and heaps more items up for grabs.
Phone bidding is available with bids needing to be in by 4.30pm. Anyone wishing to bid can text their name and bid amount to Erica on 0428168413.
All money raised on the day will be donated to the McGrath Foundation and to the Wombat Hotel Social Club who will then donate it to local cancer groups.
