The Cherrypickers first grade team had opportunities to win its game but lost 26-12 to a hungrier Tumut.
Coach James Woolford said his team did not turn up ready to play.
“The attitude and effort from the team were not to first-grade standard and we got beaten by a hungrier team,” he said.
“It was a disappointing way to start the year, especially at home. “We’ll be looking to turn things around quickly, but we know Temora will be ready to go this weekend.”
Best players Jake Veney and Jacob Hardy.
The under 16s scored a thumping 42-16 victory over Tumut last weekend thanks to gang tacking and a positive attitude.
Manager Will Scott said the Cherrypickers maintained a good shape throughout the game which helped the team to a big score.
“We tackled well, kept our structures maintained a positive attitude and had good rotations of the interchange bench, so it was a good team effort,” he said.
“The game swung our way when Blake Coombes scored a full field try just after half-time which started some good momentum for us.
“It was pleasing to see the boys put into practice what we’ve been training to do all pre-season.
“We’d like to thank the U15s who helped us out on the day.”
Scott said the under 16s would work on a few weaknesses that Tumut exposed.
“We’ll work on our defence at training and hopefully come out stronger against Temora next week.
Best Players; Blake Coombes and Ben Baker.
The League Tag team ran out convincing 28-nil winners against Tumut due to great defensive and attacking efforts.
Coach Saul Lealaitafea said he was proud of the way the Cherrypickers women played.
“The girls played an awesome game,” he said. “They played for each other and it is good to see they are progressing and growing as a team.
“We played great in defence and in attack, it was an impressive all-around team effort.”
Best player was Annie Turner.
Under 18s manager Brad Pettit said the Cherrypickers played “very well” in its 66-nil thrashing of Tumut.
“We scored 12 tries with Tom Jenkins, Jayden Cutting, Nick Maloney, Nick Hall, Brad Corroll, Zac Sell, James Ferguson, Will Hill and Ned Evans all crossing the line and Jacob Lucas converting,” he said.
“Will Scott was our best player.”
