The South West Group of the Country Women’s Association of NSW recently held its annual ‘The Land’ Handicrafts and Cookery Competition at the Cowra Services Club with an increase in the number of entries in both divisions of the competition.

Young did very well in the Handicraft division receiving the highest number of points for their eight different articles of craft work. Kath Judson from Young branch won the 80-years and over competition with her Barbagello pin cushion.
The winners of the competitions will have their work judged at the Country Women’s Association of NSW State Conference which is at Armidale this year from Sunday, April 29 until Thursday, May 3.
Some of the articles going to state conference representing the South West Group are a crotchet rug made by Jenny Thompson of the Milvale Branch, a tape measure cover using beading made by Marge Heath of the Young Branch and an appliqued green bag made by Jan Diprose of the Caragabal Branch.
The wonderful cooks in the South West Group certainly excelled themselves again this year. Morongla Creek had the most entries with 17, Young came in second with 12 entries. Jean Langfield was the individual winner with 32 points and Lyn Callaghan was in second place with 27 points.
The champion cake was the Rainbow Cake made by Catherine Williamson of the Cowra Branch. All first prize winners will cook their cakes and biscuits again for State Conference at the end of the month. All winners are to be congratulated and they are wished all the best for State Conference.
