Installed at Iandra Castle in 1910 the gas powered engine was originally used to power a 110V generator the electricity of which was used to charge a huge bank of batteries which in turn powered the lights for the homestead, the surrounding houses and the stables.
In January 2015 Iandra’s current manager Rod Kershaw contacted the Cherry Capital Collectors Club to see if they would be interested restoring the engine. For the past two and a half years the group has been doing working bees out at the Castle ever since slowly working on the vintage machine and bringing it back to life, including sourcing and manufacturing a few parts. Mr Kershaw is extremely grateful to the Cherry Capital Collectors Club and very pleased with the engine.
It has been a labour of love for all involved but the finished engine can be seen at it’s unveiling during Iandra Castle’s next open day on Sunday June 10.
