According to the Bureau of Meteorology Climate Outlook Overview, Young can be expected to have a warm and dry July, but outlook forecasters say it is going to be wet.
The Bureau of Meteorology said there would be an 80 percent chance of warmer temperatures than usual and only a 25-30 percent chance of the area exceeding its average rainfall.
However, speaking with a forecaster the outlook is much more positive with the chance of Young receiving between 100-200mm of rain over the next three months sitting in the 75-80 percent range meaning that Young will receive around the average rainfall for the three month period.
“July is likely to be drier across the eastern half of mainland Australia, with parts of the southeast having a greater than 80 percent chance of a drier than average month,” a Bureau climatologist said.
According to the data released by the Bureau, there is a 75-80 percent chance of at least 10 millimetres of rain in Young between July and September, with a 75-80 percent chance of at least 10 millimetres of rain in Young through July.
However, one of the rain forecast charts shows that Young is expected to receive between 25-50 millimetres of rain in July and between 100-200 millimetres of rain between July and September.
Over the previous years, the median or average rainfall for Young is between 100 and 200 millimetres for the period between July and September.
After the rain that fell over Young over the past two weekends the June total for rainfall as of Thursday, June 21 was 51.4mm according to data from the Bureau’s website which is only 1 millimetre short of the June average.
The average temperatures for Young in July are usually between one degree Celsius and 13 degrees Celsius, climatologists at the Bureau predict there is an 80-100 percent chance that temperatures in Young will be higher than this average in July however, minimum temperatures are only being forecasted at a 65-70 percent of being warmer than average.
In short, that would mean that the difference in the daily temperatures would be greater than in previous years.
So what does the rest of the month of June look like?
For the next seven days, there is no rain predicted and maximum temperatures are expected to remain between 13 and 15 degrees. Minimum temperatures will also stay around the average sitting between -1 degrees Celsius and 2 degrees Celsius according to the forecast.
