The Eagles shot out of the blocks at Hall Bros Oval to establish an early 2-0 lead before Young star Duncan Cameron hit back with a rocket from outside the 18-yard box in the shadows of half time.
Tumut came out even stronger in the second term to stretch the margin back to two goals with an early strike.
Not to be outdone, the hosts shifted gears and scored twice through Patrick Hislop and Isaac Hines to draw level 3-all in the dying minutes.
Lions coach Mark Mellish was pleased his side could snatch a result from the game but rued the absence of a “killer instinct”.
“Both teams had substantial opportunities but I was a little disappointed we couldn’t get three goals in the second half,” Mellish said.
“To their credit, Tumut did play well very well through the middle … and they had a chance to win it too.”
This weekend the Lions will take on Junee at Hall Brothers Oval from 3pm.
