For an old-fashioned newshound like myself, Young has been a wonderful place to ply my trade.
From AFP raids to state and federal politics and of course local politics, bringing the hard news stories to the Witness’ loyal readership has been an absolute pleasure.
Of course, bringing you the softer side of the news like baby births and hospital auxiliary news has been equally enjoyable.
I have tried to bring you a paper and website that is fair and balanced and ethical in its reporting of your news, and I feel that I have achieved that, along with Bec Hewson, in my tenure here.
Local newspapers are an essential fabric of rural communities, and hopefully, they will remain so long into the future.
You can play your part in the Witness’ future by continuing to purchase the paper and read our website.
My goal at the Witness was to make it a better read than it had been, I hope I have succeeded, many of you have told me that it is and I will cherish your kind words.
Before I leave for Dubbo and the Daily Liberal, a big thanks should go to Andrew Fisher, Tony Rhead, Bec Hewson, Kim Treasure, Jenelle Parish, Leanne Wall and Trish Paterson at the Witness. I’d also like to thank politicians (and their loyal staff), councillors, regular contributors and valued sources.
You’ve been wonderful.
Warm regards to you all.
