Mr Griffiths thought about it for about 20 years before making his first donation in August 2000.
Eighteen years on and to date, Mr Griffiths has donated 56 litres of blood but his goal is 100 litres before the cut-off age of 81.
“Upon reflection I regard it as one of the most positive days in my life, and feel there is no more satisfying achievement in life,” he said.
“My Colorado Dual Cab has a fuel tank capacity of 76 litres, I am 20 litres short."
Mr Griffiths encourages Young residents to roll up their sleeves.
“Forget about the needles, look the other way if necessary,” he said.
“Just think of those people you are helping – children, accident victims, or those unfortunate enough to contract a life-threatening disease.”
The Mobile Blood Donor Centre will be visiting Young from Monday, August 13 until Thursday, August 16. For more information, ring 13 14 95.
