Young and district lends a hand to farmers in need | Photos

Residents from Young and the surrounding region are getting behind farmers in need with a number of events being organised to help raise funds for those on the land.

Farmers, both local and from across regional NSW, are fighting through the worst drought in living memory, with 99 per cent of the state now officially in drought.

The community of Bribbaree near Young is gearing up for a fundraiser on New Years Day, with proceeds from the event doing towards the Burrumbuttock Hay Runners.

“I’d like to make it quite a large fundraiser held at the one and only Railway Hotel Bribbaree,” event committee member Bianca Campbell said.

“We will be after as many donations as possible… we have about five months to plan and get the word out.”

The day/night event will feature live music and entertainment, a jumping castle, raffles, an auction and a delicious serve up of roast lamb and vegetables.

There will also be camping available and a donation table if people wish to drop off non-perishable food and toiletries. If you can help, please contact Bianca on 0400 611 511.

Down south, Michele Delaney from Jugiong said she wanted to try and help after seeing the devastating effects of drought on farmers.

She is planning the “Let’s Give it to Farmers” event in Jugiong after being inspired by singer Buddy Goodes.

“Lets do something before we have another farmer’s life taken and make sure they know that we are here to help where we can,” she said.

“This will not fix the problem but we can help and it may just stop another farmer having to sell and give up the land they work so hard for, while also acknowledging that we know the pressure and metal heath issues this is causing the great men and women of the land.”

Michele is after presenters, donations, raffle prices, volunteers, guest appearances/performances, food stalls, beverages, lighting, sound, contacts, face painting, tractor rides, Harley rides and the list goes on.

If you can help, please contact Michele on 0455 330 611 or theroadhouseonriverside@gmail.com.au

Donations from “Let’s Give it to Farmers” will go the Burrumbuttock Hay Runners and Buy A Bale.
