Mr Dimmock performed his show A Swag Full of Instruments for about 30 kids and six aged care residents on Tuesday at Goodstart Young, continuing a successful program aimed at reducing loneliness in seniors.
The program was introduced 18 months ago and sees about six to 10 residents visit the early learning centre once a month.
Mr Dimmock performed traditional children’s songs with a variety of instruments, including the spoons, from Australia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and America.
“It’s great for the kids to learn about culture by listening to a variety of music from instruments they don’t see everyday,” Goodstart director Amy Ryan said.
“It’s about trying to mix the generations. It is important because there are breakdowns in family structures,” pastoral care team leader of Southern Cross Aged Care Nicole Freeman said.
