Hilltops Council has appointed a new general manager.
Hilltops mayor Brian Ingram said the council is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Edwina Marks as General Manager.
"Dr Marks is highly qualified, has a broad range of skills and extensive experience in Local Government, Cr Ingram said.
“Edwina showed strong strategic vision during the interview process and I am confident that she will be an asset to the Hilltops region, being the strong leader that we require,” Cr Ingram said.
Dr Marks has extensive experience in Local Government and has held previous Chief Executive Officer roles at the Barkly Regional Council in the Northern Territory and the Bulloo Shire Council in South West Queensland.
She comes to Hilltops Council with a focus in community engagement, regional development and change management.
“This will be an exciting opportunity for Edwina to support the Council in providing strong community leadership ensuring that we can achieve our ambitions and potential as a region,” Cr Ingram said.
Dr Marks has a Ph.D. in Fine Art from the University of Newcastle and a Master of Business from Charles Sturt University.
She has continued her professional development throughout her career, most recently attending senior leadership programs at the Melbourne Business School and is a recent graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
It is anticipated that Dr Marks will officially commence her duties at Hilltops Council on Monday, September 10 2018.
“On behalf of Council and staff I would like to thank Acting General Manager David Aber for his leadership,” Cr Ingram said.
“His experience has been invaluable to Council especially in this complex newly amalgamated environment and we wish him well in his future endeavours.
“I very much look forward to welcoming Edwina to Hilltops and working closely with her,” Cr Ingram said.
The Hilltops Council appointed David Aber to the role of acting general manager after a resolution was passed at an extraordinary meeting on Wednesday, May 30.
Mr Aber was appointed after the Hilltops Council decided not to renew the previous general manager Anthony McMahon's contract.
The decision was made at the February 2018 Council meeting and was not a unanimous decision.
The general manager's contract was due to conclude in September this year.
Under the contract, the council had a set time-frame before its end date to decide on whether the contract would be renewed.
