There was plenty of footy to get around during the opening weekend of Spring and Aussie Rules was the dominant code on Sunday.

Things got off to a flyer in the Riverina League with defending premiers Leeton-Whitton seeing off a favoured Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes outfit in their elimination final.

The Crows ran out 13.11 (89) to 10.10 (70) victors and will face Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong in next week’s minor semi final after the Lions’ qualifying final loss to Collingullie-Glenfield Park

The Farrer League minor semi final proved a scrappy affair with Temora eventually ending East Wagga-Kooringal’s season in a 7.9 (51) to 6.10 (46) brawler.

In what probably won’t go down as a spectator’s dream final, the Kangaroos came to life with a three-goal spree in the third term to set up a tight win.

Over in the world of Football Wagga and the Pascoe Cup, Lake Albert completed a perfect regular season with a 4-1 win over South Wagga and will enjoy a free pass to the top four alongside Henwood Park, who smashed Tolland 6-0 on Saturday night

We were also right across the Riverina League netball finals and Leonard Cup soccer.
