Jon finished the season with 487 points, behind Zak Best on 601 and 17-year-old apprentice Tyler Everingham on 634 points.
A race win and podium finishes in four of the five rounds marked his best year in the Kumho Series yet, with several opportunities to lead races throughout the season.
The title was decided in Round 5 of the championships at Tailem Bend, South Australia in late August. Despite leading for the majority of Race 3 that weekend, a collision with another driver caused the exhaust pipe of his Dial Before You Dig V8 Ford Falcon to be ripped off.
McCorkindale said the crash ultimately cost him a spot on the podium.
“I went from fourth to first, then the driver went into the side of my car,” McCorkindale said.
“It’s hard to say if would have won before the crash. It was a tight race and a new track for all of the drivers.”
McCorkindale said the 2018 season was one of his best yet and was proud of the effort his smaller team put in against some of the bigger names in supercars.
“We’re a family based team running against professional teams,” McCorkindale said.
McCorkindale will now look towards next year’s season.
“I won’t start up again until at least March next year,” McCorkindale said.
