Played in warm conditions at Rawlings Parks at Lake Albert on Sunday afternoon, the Lions raced two a two goal lead in the first-half of the elimination final and managed to hold on to book a spot in this week’s semi-final against Junee.
Defender Tessa Long was solid all game, while defensive midfielder Bianca Roach and goalkeeper Maggie Davis made sure the Lions didn’t concede, repelling United on several occasions.
Keen to show that this year has not just been about the boys, the Lions continued to move the ball around and control the pace of the game as they’ve done in recent weeks.
Player of the year nominees Micaela Hall and Freya Hewitson scored the first half goals to put Young ahead 2-0 at the break.
In the second-half, the Lions pushed to extend the lead, piling pressure on the United goalkeeper however the match ended 2-0.

The victory sews up a spot in this week’s semi-final against Junee with a place in the grand final up for grabs. The two sides met before the finals and Young went down 2-0.
“I am so proud of the girls, we played at 110 per cent, linking passing and shifting the ball well,” Jemma Long said.
“Next week we have Junee, but we have improved against them. Hopefully we can play like this week, and if we do, we will scare them and could sneak away with a win.”
The semi-final is set for a 9am kick-off at Junee.
