For the second time this year the under 23s side proved far too strong for their rivals.

After Group Nine took a 66-6 win in April, they scored another big win at E W Moore Oval on Saturday.

New coach Tim Humphries was impressed by how the team came together after a limited preparation.

“You have so many kids from so many different clubs in a short turnaround with a rep side,” Humphries said.

“They combined in really well, put their hand up and played really well.”

Young utility Casey Wall changed the game with two crucial tries coming into half-time.

Liam Wiscombe burst through the Group 20 line to opening the scoring before Mitchell Monaghan responded.

James Hay then crashed over the line before Wall made his impact.

Replacing Joe Lumb at hooker, Wall scored twice from dummy half to give his team a 24-6 advantage.

Humphries was impressed by the spark he provided off the bench.

“Joe Lumb got a bit of a knock so we brought him off and Casey Wall went on and had some really great vision around the ruck,” he said.

“He saw the markers were a little bit slow at retreating to their 10 and took full advantage of it.

“It was a really good turning point and opened it up a lot around that middle too as it kept the markers on their toes.

“He had a really good game coming off the bench.”

Tries to captain Troy Barby and James Smith in the second half sealed the win.

Humphries made a couple of late changes with Joe Leggatt coming in to replace Brothers teammate Connor McCauley, who injured his back at work, and Temora’s Jock Ward was also drafted in.

After missing a large chunk of the season with a shoulder injury then successive suspensions, Barby really led from the front.

Smith also impressed in the halfback role while Liam Wiscombe got through plenty of work in defence.

“For a young man he stood up and let them know he was there for selection for the next stage,” Humphries said.

While Group Nine won the big one, Group 20 won the other three games.

They came from behind in the leaguetag to score a 12-10 win with a late penalty goal from Rachael Pearson proved to be the difference.

Group 20 also won both junior games with a 22-10 win in the under 17s plus a 50-12 win over an undermanned under 15s side.

From here Riverina squads will be selected.
