The scenarios have helped them develop good problem solving skills, communication skills, effective team work ability, crew leading skills and to learn the outs and ins of pump usage and general RFS works.
After 14 weeks of development in preparation for for a two-day event, six of the cadets went to Holbrook to compete in the Region South Cadet Games.
The massive amount of training in such a short amount of time for a fairly fresh team reaped rewards with a second overall finish overall and four first-place finishes in various events.
Sam Tout, who has been training the cadets says that it is about self enforced effort and dedication.
“The training can be intense and it can be pretty relaxed, it depends on the kids but it is made to be fun, that way they will want to learn,” Sam said.
“They’re a really great group of kids and we aim to just develop their confidence and knowledge and the end goal is always to get them ready to get on the back of the trucks.
“To me it’s all about developing their skills sets so that we know they will be able to jump on the back of the trucks and be able to do the job.”

Sam tweaks the training depending on the kids to cater for the skills each group needs to work on and develop.
After, the cadets will leave with a basic bush fire certificate and around 50 per cent will more than likely be recruited into the force, Sam said.
Behind the scenes it is a team of people encouraging, supporting and making it possible for the cadets to continue their skill development and venture out.
“I would just like to thank Lucus Green, Greg Dunn and Mandy Butt who do all the behind the scenes work,” Sam said.
“Also I’d like to thank our sponsors.
“IGA and the Hilltops Council that have been with us for ten years, and our new sponsors Young Work Wear and LPC.
“Without them events wouldn’t be possible.”
