Always a highlight of the regional racing calendar, the 38th running of the 1400 metre event will again see the jewel in the Hilltops Region Crown attract racegoers from all points of the compass to again witness what should be another top day of racing.

Last year’s winner The Real McCoy, ridden by Ricky Blewitt defeated Kinda Tangy for professional rider Billy Owen.
The Harden Picnics were first held in their current format way back in 1980 when the unusually named Bobby Bobtail won the race. Since then there as been only one horse win the race twice, that being Chance Affair in 1995/1996.

Committee man Jim Brown won the race in 1983 with Just Barcoo, Money Road was also a popular local winner for Bill Spackman in 1993, Strictly Family and Norms Bridle kept the home fires burning in 1998/1999, Geemtee won the race in 2005 for the late John B McGregor, Tha’ Hab fuelled the fire in 2010 and with strong nominations for the $8000 race, this year should be one of the best on record.
