Rotarians have a very simple motto: service above self.
The more than 30,000 Rotarians across Australia are ordinary people who contribute something very special to both their local and the international communities.
Rotary Australia describes members as “people like you and me”.
“They are everyday men and women who liked the idea of helping others, building peace and understanding, serving our community and developing friendships and networks that last a lifetime,” the organisation’s website states.
The Rotary Club of Young is part of an international network of people who strive to make the world a better place through practical efforts.
This concept of "paying it forward" unites men and women from different backgrounds, cultures, religious and political beliefs the world over, allowing ordinary people to do extraordinary things.
On their journey to lend a hand, both locally and on the international stage, Young Rotarians use the organisation’s Four-Way Test as a guide in all they think, say and do.
This simple ethical framework asks:
- Is it the truth?
- Is it fair to all concerned?
- Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
- Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
While the tradition of Rotary began more than 100 years ago in the United States of America, the goodwill wave hit Australian shores in 1921 and the Rotary Club of Young has been making a difference to people’s lives since 1938, undertaking a wide range of projects.
