This year’s Remembrance Day marks a significant milestone, commemorating 100 years since the end of World War I on November 11, 1918.
Young RSL sub branch president John Walker invites the community to pay their respect at Sunday’s ceremony.
“Sub-branch members invite the community and especially descendants of veterans to the commemoration events to recognise this significant anniversary and to pay tribute to the many servicemen from Young who helped forge the character of ANZAC,” Mr Walker said.
Profiles of servicemen from Young who enlisted to serve as part of the Australian Forces in World War I will be on display.
Bec Oehm and the Young and District Family Group have spent countless hours preparing profiles to share with the public, which will be on display under cover at Anderson Park.
“It should a nice day at the park. Being the 100th year is significant there’ll be some big ceremonies across the country,” Mr Walker said.
The sub-branch is compiling a list of names of serving and ex-servicemen and women from the Young district who have served on active service or in peace keeping roles as part of the Australian Forces post 1975.

It’s asked that families provide information so the honour rolls can be organised to recognise their service.
The branch wishes to list veterans names and where they served.
This information can be provided to the RSL sub branch at Sunday’s Remembrance Day ceremony or by contacting John Walker on 0408821948.
A free barbecue will be available following Sunday’s ceremony.
The sub branch wishes to thank the continued support of the Young Cadet Unit who form part of the commemoration ceremony and will cook the barbecue.
Young RSL sub branch will also support the Murringo Community Association at its commemoration ceremony at Murringo Hall at 11am.
The RSL sub branch congratulates the authors of the World War I book – Marengo Boys Answer The Call – to be officially launched at the ceremony.
