An employee of the supermarket allegedly witnessed the man steal an item from the store about 8am.
The employee challenged the man about the theft and it’s alleged the offender produced a knife which he used to threaten staff and get away.
At no point did the offender attempt to attack the employee, police say.
Police responded and made an arrest a short distance from the store and recovered a knife that they’ll allege was used during the incident.
He was taken into custody and charged.
