Lara Noyse from Young Public School and Johnny Hosken, Liam Wymer, Rory and Cameron Steele, Reid and Brady Noyse and Elizabeth Bragg from Young High School will be joining students from 34 schools west of the Great Dividing Range for the 2019 West of the Divide band tour.
In January next year the group will travel to Europe for scheduled performances in Rome, Florence, Venice, Bled and Zagreb.
Not only will the ensembles be performing in some amazing venues they will also be given the opportunity to experience workshops with international maestros, visit schools they will also be visiting two Australian embassies, the one in Rome, Itlay and the one in Zagreb, Croatia.
During the student’s time in Croatia they will be given the opportunity to live the culture through experiencing a vocal Clapa singing workshop. Clapa is a style of Croatian folk singing.
The students will be supported on their trip by an amazing team of teachers and music tutors who are professional musicians, including Young Public School teacher Mrs Reimke who will be accompanying Lara on her second tour with the ensemble.
The teachers and tutors have worked with the ensembles in the band and vocal camps and gave freely of their time and expertise in an intensive camp preparing the music for the tour held in the last school holidays.
The ensembles will meet again for intensive rehearsals just prior to departure. Otherwise the students work in their own schools and towns to master their parts and prepare for the tour.
The efforts of staff, students and volunteers will go under the spotlight in places where music is an integral part of their lifestyle and culture.
The three Arts coordinators West of the Divide (Di Hall, Dianne Reichelt and Dianna Alexander) believe that these opportunities give our students who are educated in country towns and equity of opportunity to have amazing experiences, work with international maestros, perform in venues beyond their realm of imagination, meet and work with students from international schools and work and perform music which would not be possible in their own schools.
