The annual event, this year worth $12,750, run over 2100 metre is conducted to coincide with the Young cherry season and has continued to attract a large number of visitors to the town filling most available accommodation outlets, caravan parks and local B and Bs.
The original Cup was run on a Thursday afternoon with Simon Gosling driven by Cowra reinsman Doug Lee taking out the feature race.
Local trainers who were successful included Barry Lawrence with Safely Scootin in 2004 and Michael Hardy with Western Ruby in 2006.
Bathurst driver Amanda Turnbull currently has the most number of winners in the Cup, taking out the prize three times with the free legged pacer Avonova in 2011 kicking off her run.
The now retired grey I’m Blue Double Dee (who now has a successful show ring future as a hack) won the race in 2013 with Parramatta taking out the feature race in 2016.
Last year’s winner was the Josh Turnbull trained Lockton Luck driven by John O’Shea who defeated Holy Camp Clive and Onthestraightenarrow driven by Blake Jones.
