Amelia Everdell and Clare Grantham have spent the past few months busily organising fundraisers and community events in an effort to be crowned Cherry Queen at this weekend’s 69th National Cherry Festival.
But, according to the pair, rather than pursuing the crown of Cherry Queen, it’s been more about the experience of getting involved in the Young community and helping raise needed funds for their chosen charity.
Amelia has been raising money for CanAssist while Clare’s fundraising has been for Community Chest.

Amelia hosted a golf day, high tea and movie night and said it was an “amazing” experience.
“All the organising has been fantastic and really worth it. Whoever gets Charity or Cherry Queen doesn’t really matter it’s just the cherry on top. It’s just been great to be able to raise funds for my amazing charity.
“I knew it would be tough but I’ve loved every second,” she said.
Clare organised six events including a masquerade dinner dance, movie night, high tea, bowls night, bake sale and supper for the theatre company.
Meeting new people, learning new skills and the feeling of supporting a charity was the biggest satisfaction.
“It was a lot more full on than I expected. I’ve learnt a lot and met a lot of people. I wouldn’t change it for the world, I’m really glad I did it. I’d encourage everyone to give it a go,” she said.
Amelia and Clare will take part in the parade before the Queen coronation about 5pm on Saturday afternoon outside the Town Hall on Boorowa Street.
They will be out and about and will feature at various events throughout the weekend.
“I’m very excited for this weekend. I’ve had the greatest time. Handing over the cheque to my charity is going to be an amazing feeling,” Amelia said.
“We’ll be around all weekend. It’ll be really exciting. I think we’re going to go watch the pip spitting and pie eating competitions. I might have a go at the pip spitting,” Clare said.
