Michael McCormack visits award-winning Young pig farm

Acting Prime Minister of Australia Michael McCormack last Friday visited the Blantyre Farms piggery near Young after the farm was recently announced as the 2018 Green Globe Award Winners. Along side Michael McCormack was Hilltops Mayor Brian Ingram.

They were both given an exclusive tour around the farm by owners Edwina and Michael Beveridge who were able to get a hands on experience.

“It’s fantastic to be here at Michael’s and Edwina’s Blantyre Farms, what an amazing, fantastic operation,” Mr McCormack said.

“This farm is producing 40,000 pigs per year, but not only that, they’re bringing in $2.2 million into the Young district.

“Blantyre Farms have opened up so many positions of employment to the Young community, which is just fantastic,” Mr McCormack said.

Edwina and Michael are pleased to receive congratulations from Mr McCormack and enjoyed showing him around their farm.

“We were so pleased and proud to have won the Green Globe award, but we are even more proud to have the acting Prime Minister visit our farm today,” Edwina said.

Mayor Brian Ingram said that it is a great credit to Edwina and Michael.

“We realise how important these types of industries are to our regional communities, so it’s an honour to be here,” Mr Ingram said.
