Last Thursday, a family from Perth travelling around Australia came specifically to Young to get a taste of the Cherry Capital.
They made their first stop at Ballinaclash Wines and Fruit.

One family member, Ezra Prince, said Ballinaclash has the best cherry ice cream in the whole of Australia.
Ballinaclash’s Ned Mullany said the orchard had seen at least one thousand visitors during the Festival weekend from Friday, November 30 till Sunday, December 2.
“All it takes is rain tomorrow and things for us could change in terms of the cherries, but so far, this year has been great for us,” Ned said.

Hilltops Council Tourism and Events manager Mel Ford last week announced that she reckons 20,000 people visited the region just for the Cherry Festival.
“Numbers would be up there near 20,000 in the region for the weekend,” she said.
“It’s millions of dollars [into the economy]. Cherry season begins at Melbourne Cup and goes till Christmas, and it looks like we will have cherries at Christmas this year which is great.
“It brings millions into the economy at this time of year,” she added.
