More than 20mm was recorded in downpours on Thursday and Friday, as the worst of the storms passed north, with Cowra receiving flash flooding and 40.4mm, according to the Burea of Meteorology.
Local grower Scott Coupland said the rain had minimal impact on cherries in the Young region.

“All the cherry growers I’ve spoken to have told me that the rain was more beneficial than anything,” he said.
“Most of the damage has been from birds this year, we’ve had a lot more damage from birds than any weather. The rain has been excellent, perfect timing. It’s just freshened the trees a bit.”

With Christmas nearing, Mr Coupland said some orchards will be winding down cherry operations this week, while other will continue till close to new year.
“There’s been plenty of numbers going out. There’s a lot of fruit leaving the Young region now. The quality has been good and they’re eating well,” he said.
