According to the Murrumbidgee Local Health District 97 percent of patients that visited the Young Emergency Department were treated within the New South Wales Health ED triage target times.
The range of presentations were just as varied as the level of severity with people showing up with trauma/injuries, chest and abdominal pain, respiratory conditions, allergic reactions, sore throats and generally unwell as well as animal bites.
There were also five babies born during the Christmas and New Year period including one born at 3.30am on New Year’s Day.
Acting Facility Nurse Manager Belinda Downey thanked all Young Hospital medical, nursing and support staff who worked during the Christmas and New Year period.
“It’s important to acknowledge our staff who spent the festive season away from their families and friends to look after people in our community who needed hospital care,” Ms Donwey said.
“It was business as usual for Young Hospital as emergency care is a 24-hour, seven day service. Unfortunately, people still get sick over the Christmas period,” she said.

Ms Downey also urged local residents to keep the ED for emergencies only.
“We advise people with minor conditions to see their General Practitioner (GP), visit their local pharmacy or contact healthdirect for general advice and information,” she said.
