Bill Cameron was presented with a Medal of the Order of Australia on Australia Day, having held more than 45 years of experience in executive positions within Young’s sporting community.

Bill has been acknowledged for his induction into Young’s Walk of Fame in 2016 for his services to cricket, for being Senior Sportsperson for Young in 1993, Country Umpire of the Year from 1992 to 1993 and the Australia Day Senior Sportsperson in 1992.
Outside cricket, Bill began has been a member of the Harden-Murrumburrah Lions Club and a member of the Young Lions Club.

He has aided the community over a number of years including being chairman for Coast and Country Community Services since 2013, a chairman at St Mary's Parish Council from 2011-2013 and a co-chairman for Relay for Life in 2007.
He was chairman for the Public School and Young High School Parents and Friends Committee in 1991 and was president of Little Athletics, Young 1988.
He was an honorary member and ambulance officer of the Young and District Ambulance from 1963-1971 and is a founding member of Harden-Murrumburrah Lions Club in 1968.
He volunteers for Meals on Wheels in Young currently, and is a support driver for a fund raising bike ride for the Mark Hughes Foundation.
As a cricket umpire, Bill has officiated eight international matches, four Sheffield Shield matches and two Mercantile Cup games. This included games involving the West Indies, England and Zimbabwe.

He was appointed third umpire for an Ashes Test in Sydney and has officiated Sydney first grade games.
Bill said he first got into cricket umpiring through the involvement of his son Paul Cameron.
“I’d take Paul to play, you know, you keep them sporty to stop them being naughty,” Bill said.
“Then I would end up stuck with about 20 kids to umpire, watch and look after.
“I’ve done a lot and it’s certainly nice to be recognised, especially because there are definitely other members of our community who have done just as much if not more than I have, so I am definitely thankful to be awarded.”
Bill’s achievement was recognised at Young’s Australia Day ceremony.
