The NSW Country Regional meet was held in Wagga over a very hot Australia Day weekend and credit to our swimmers and families for their commitment to training over the holiday break to work towards this meet.
The team performance that was delivered was fantastic with our swimmers doing exceptionally well against the major clubs of Albury, Wagga and Trinity Grammar from Sydney.
Twenty-three club members travelled to Wagga and competed in 138 events.

Ninety personal bests were swum and our club walked away with seven gold, 13 silver and 10 bronze medals.
Congratulations to Will Martin, Louis Clark and Abby Hall for qualifying for the NSW Country Championships and Lydia Martin and Lucinda Madden qualifying for the NSW Junior State Age Championships through their times swum at Wagga.
The team now heads to Junee to compete in the meet that’s linked to the Speedo Sprints Carnival in Sydney, many members are hoping for further success and more personal bests.
World championship bronze medallist Kurt Herzog was in attendance at Wagga.
The 26-year-old’s conduct and willingness to get involved with the juniors didn’t go unnoticed and Murphy was full of praise for the rising star, who remains a shot at qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
“Kurt was just terrific really, he didn’t hesitate at all and I think having him along was great for the kids too,” Wagga Swim Club vice president Wayne Murphy said.
“He jumped into photos, did the handicap swim … all that’s great to see.”

“He’s a great ambassador for the sport and I’m glad we got him along.”
Overall, Murphy was thrilled with the turnout over the weekend, which looked at times threatened by inclement weather.
“I was really happy with how it all turned out, really pleased.”
“It’s a big event run with Swimming NSW and there’s always heaps of swimmers.”
