In just one hour, 75 millilmeters of rain was recorded at the Bureau of Meteorology’s (BOM) gauge at Young Airport on Tuesday evening.
The rains came following a severe thunderstorm warning that was issued by the BOM just after 2pm on Tuesday.
Data from the BOM shows that the rain began falling at 4.38pm, and by 5.43pm, 75.6mm had been received.
The rain kept falling for a while longer and by 10pm, 80mm had been recorded.
The heavy rain also brought widespread blackouts, with hundreds of people around Young, Boorowa, Bribbaree and Milvale still without power at 7am on Wednesday.
Young Witness reader Joy Flett was among those who posted to social media following the heavy downpours.
“We just got hammered, nothing like Teneeka Plumridge, but 75ml in an hour,” she wrote on the Young Witness Facebook page.
