Seven of Young's finest gave blood within just a first few minutes of the Red Cross Blood Bank Mobile having set up in Young for their Bleed4Blue 12 month run on Friday.
Among those rolling up their sleeve were Acting Inspector Mick Madgwick, Senior Constable Nick Scoular and Constable Erin Handss, all having taken time out of their busy day to donate blood for Bleed4Blue.
Bleed4Blue is in it's 12th month.
The drive started in New South Wales following the stabbing of Sydney Inspector Sergeant John Breda in February of 2018.
Sergeant John Breda needed an astonishing 42 bags of blood in order to save his life.
His recovery from the stabbing is ongoing from an incident that really opened the eyes of NSW Police, re-enforcing how important it is to be able to have access to clean blood in desperate times.
One by one the Young based officers donated blood on Friday morning.
With just less than a month left in the drive, more than 3,200 donations have been made by police, helping to save more than 9,600 lives.
Currently, NSW Police lead the drive with 945 blood donations, followed by the Victorian Police with 804 and than Queensland Police with 465.
The Red Cross Mobile Unit is set up every month in Young adjacent the Woolworth's car park from 11am, on a Tuesday and Friday.
During 2018, there were 13,420 blood donations made across the region, including Young, which represented a drop on the 13,951 donations received in the year before.
Despite the decline in donations, an Australian Red Cross Blood Service (ARCBS) spokeswoman said that with three lives saved from every donation that amounted to 40,260 lives saved during 2018.
When it comes to blood donations Bathurst led the way last year with 2160.
The top five mobile donor locations is rounded out with Mudgee in second place with 1200 blood donations followed by Young (760 donations), Lithgow (660) and Cowra (480).
Plasma is also regularly donated by people across the Central West, with the number of donations increasing year-on-year.
Currently, around three per cent of the population donates blood.
