Douglas, 23, of McKenzie Street in Young, was before the court charged with breaching a bond for common assault after he committed a destroy or damage property offence on December 23, 2018.
According to a set of police facts Douglas and a victim were in a motor vehicle when an argument began and the victim stopped the vehicle, asking Douglas to get out.
Eventually Douglas left the vehicle but police say he kicked the car door after doing so, causing a dent, and threw a small torch at one of the vehicle’s windows, causing no damage.
Sentencing Douglas, magistrate Michael O’Brien told him “you are not the only person to be involved in family politics”.
“Virtually every family that you talk to can tell you stories about interpersonal relationships and conflicts, you are no exception.”
Referring to his bond breach Mr O’Brien said to Douglas, “you clearly didn’t listen”
“It makes me wonder whether people listen when they are before a magistrate and they are told what might happen if they breach bonds,” he said.
“I am quite sure that I would’ve made it clear to you what would happen if you re-offend.
“From time to time we get upset, but it doesn’t give you licence to impose your will on someone else and if they don’t comply damage their property.
“This says more about you than the person who you directed your anger.
“This action didn’t make you right or that your view was superior.
“You clearly forgot that when you left court in March last year you left on the promise of not breaking the law for the next 12 months.
“You don’t keep your word and you can’t control your temper.
Mr O’Brien revoked his bond and replaced it with a Community Corrections Order with supervision and placed him on a further order for the damage property charge.
