Hilltops Library Young branch saw an attentive audience hear from a panel of senior rights experts on Wednesday as they explored issues that older people can experience when planning for the future.

Panel members were Tammy Cabban, seniors rights service, Wagga, Jayden Regmi, social worker, Mercy Care Centre, Young, Julie Maron, senior solicitor, Legal Aid NSW, Wagga, and Natalie Neumann, Legal Aid NSW, Sydney.
The session organised in conjunction with Seniors Festival 2019, was made possible by a partnership between Hilltops Library, the State Library of NSW and Legal Aid NSW.

A film screening of the play “Piano Forte”, which explores elder abuse, was followed by a discussion and Q and A with panel members.
There are numerous agencies which can provide assistance with these matters, including NSW Trustee and Guardian, whose staff can advise on powers of attorney and enduring guardianship free of charge to pensioners.
Locally, the social worker at Mercy Care Centre can also provide advice to concerned residents.

“The library collection includes the Find Legal Answers Toolkit, current and relevant resources providing guidance on topics such as family law, employment, neighbourhood disputes, wills, appointing a power of attorney and other issues which require some knowledge about the laws governing our lives,” Library Manager, Janice Ottey said.
“Today’s session, together with the books and online resources available through the Legal Aid website, can alleviate some of the stress, and offer solutions to resolve these important issues."
