"Year 5 and 6 at the end of 2018 had a better attendance that then rest of the school combined," Mrs Gay said.
With the Department of Education and YNPS aiming to reach at least 95 percent attendance YNPS classes KW, K/1D, 2R, 3/4A, 3/4K, 5/6S and 5/6T have reached 100 percent of their class attending school for two weeks straight.
Mrs Gay said the school has put quite a few things in place and stayed on top of the students who have been absent for more than one day at a time.
"If the students aren't at school we can't teach them," Mrs Gay said.
Mrs Gay attributes the positive approach the school is taking to absenteeism rather than placing blame or making things uncomfortable teachers, students and parents and carers are working together to open communication lines and create a relationship to establish strategies that ensure the student gets to school.
"Classroom teachers have worked the magic here," Mrs Gay said.
The school has adopted the phrase "It's not OK to be away" and Mrs Gay said the school has been quite open in discussing the topic across the school as a whole.
